Fausto J Pinto graduated at Lisbon School of Medicine, Univ Lisbon, did his cardiology training at University Hospital Santa Maria in Lisbon and Stanford University Medical Center, CA, USA, where he was also junior Faculty. He is the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, Full Professor of Cardiology, Head of Heart and Vascular Department of Santa Maria University Hospital, President of the World Heart Federation (WHF 2021-2), National Coordinator of the Medical Schools Council (2018-2020), President of the Executive Board of the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre, Past-President of the European Society of Cardiology, President of Cardiovascular Center of University of Lisbon (CCUL). He is Consulting Editor and Member of the Editorial Board of several international peer-reviewed journals and honorary member of several international scientific societies and academic centers, including fellow and gold medalist of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), American College of Cardiology (FACC), American Society of Angiology (FASA), Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI) and the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE). He is honorary member of several international scientific societies, academies and Universities, including Full Member of the Portuguese Academy of Medicine and honorary member of Czech Cardiology Society, Colombian Society of Cardiology, Hungarian Society of Cardiology, Societé Française de Cardiologie, Societá Italiana di Ecografia Cardiovasculare, Peruvian Society of Cardiology, Romanian Society of Cardiology, Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences, Russian Society of Cardiology, SBC, Slovakian Society of Cardiology. . Main areas of interest are ischemic heart disease, anticoagulation, heart failure, clinical cardiology and cardiovascular imaging, with particular interest in the use of ultrasound in cardiology and has pioneered the use of intravascular ultrasound in the study of graft atherosclerosis.
