Dr. Andy Yong

Andy Yong is an Associate Professor at the University of Sydney and Clinical Associate Professor at Macquarie University. Having graduated with First Class Honors from the University of Sydney in 2002, Dr Yong undertook his residency and general cardiology training at Concord Hospital. He then trained as a research and interventional cardiology fellow at Royal Prince Alfred and Concord Hospitals, and was awarded a PhD degree in 2010. He subsequently completed a postdoctoral and clinical interventional cardiology fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center. 

Dr Yong specialises as a general and interventional cardiologist and his clinical interests include coronary heart disease, valvular and structural heart disease, and preventive cardiology. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed publications and over 50 abstracts, and has presented at various international and local meetings. 

Dr Yong has won many awards for his work including the Best Year 1 Clinical Tutor award at the Concord Clinical School, University of Sydney in 2008, the Concord Hospital Early Career Research Prize in 2010, the Dean’s Research Prize for Best Postgraduate Publication in 2010 and the Peter Bancroft Prize for his PhD Thesis in 2011. He has also attracted several scholarships/grants/fellowships including the NHMRC Postgraduate Medical Scholarship in 2008, the Pfizer Cardiovascular Lipid Grant in 2010, the RACP Foundation AstraZeneca Fellowship in Medical Research in 2012 and the NHMRC Overseas Postdoctoral Training Fellowship in 2012. 

Dr Yong has served as an invited faculty speaker at the American College of Cardiology and Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics conferences in the United States. Dr Yong serves as a member of the Concord Hospital Ethics Scientific Subcommittee and is a member in the NHMRC Translational Research Faculty.
