Considered a pioneer in Echocardiography and "Father of Modern Echocardiography" by many organizations and institutions. Also, awarded "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the American Society of Echocardiography (2018) and Ellis Island Medal of Honor. Two institutes and three echocardiography laboratories in India are named after him.
Discovered the pulmonary valve by echocardiography which resulted in the development of pediatric echocardiography, invented treadmill exercise echocardiography, introduced color Doppler to USA, developed the clinical technique of live /real time 3-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography and pioneered use of echocardiography in cardiac pacing and electrophysiology. Has published over 500 original peer reviewed full length manuscripts in echocardiography and cardiology and 13 textbooks in these fields.
