ESC Immediate Past-President (2018 – 2020), Jeroen Bax is Director of non-invasive imaging and Director of the echo-lab at the Leiden University Medical Center. His main interests include clinical cardiology, heart failure, cardiac resynchronization therapy and the application of all different imaging modalities to these clinical fields. Professor Bax has authored numerous papers and holds several positions in national and international scientific organizations, as well as serving on the editorial boards of many different journals.

Received his doctorate from the Medical University of Vienna. He trained in internal medicine and cardiology and went on to become an Associate Professor of Cardiology there in 2005. He is now director of the clinic for valvular heart disease at the Medical University of Vienna. His research interests include structural heart disease, valvular heart disease as well as echocardiography with a particular focus on defining the optimal timing and choice of intervention for these conditions. Professor Rosenhek also serves on the editorial boards of several cardiological journals. He is the Past-Chairman of the Nucleus of the Working Group on Valvular Heart Disease of the European Society of Cardiology and serves on the programme committees for the European Society of Cardiology meeting and the Euroecho meeting.
