Dr. Collins is a senior interventional cardiologist at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans , LA. He earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. He completed his internship at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. followed by his residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He was a internist for 3 years before returning to Walter Reed to complete his Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship and remained on staff for 2 more years. He is a MSCAI, FACC, FSVM, FAHA, fellow of ISES, IAGS member and a member of the Association of Black Cardiologist. He has been on the faculty at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans since 1989. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Collins served as an Associate Editor for Catheterizations and Cardiovascular Interventions journal from 2000 to 2010 . He has authored more than 100 manuscripts, 100 abstracts, and 25 book chapters. He served on the Board of Trustees for the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), was chairman of the Carotid Interventional Committee and a member of the Peripheral Vascular Disease Committee, and Fellows in Training Committee, the American Heart Association Peripheral Vascular Disease Council, and American Heart Association’s Stroke Council. His current research interests involve coronary interventions, carotid stents to prevent stroke, and non-surgical heart valve replacement to avoid open heart surgery. He is an investigator on several clinical research studies. Dr. Collins expertise includes complex coronary, lower extremity, and congenital interventions. Dr. Collins maintains an active clinical referral practice. Dr. Collins is an Associate Professor with Ochsner Clinical School, University of Queensland School of Medicine.
