Dr. Issam D. Moussa is Medical Director of the Carle Heart & Vascular Institute and Clinical Professor of Medicine at Carle Illinois College of Medicine, University of Illinois-UC. Dr. Moussa experience prior to joining Carle Heart & Vascular Institute spanned academic medicine, clinical outcome research, and medical device development. He served as Professor & Clinical Chief of Cardiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, in New Brunswick, New Jersey; Professor & Chair of the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at Mayo Clinic, Florida; Director of Endovascular Service at the Divisions of Cardiology - New York Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia and Cornell Universities; and Director of Interventional Cardiology Research at Lenox Hill Heart & Vascular Institute in New York City. As an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Moussa specializes in performing complex catheter-based cardiovascular procedures in patients with coronary artery disease, structural heart disease, and peripheral arterial disease. Dr. Moussa has been a prolific clinical investigator, he has co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles in prominent medical journals and has participated in over 100 clinical trials. His clinical research activities spanned the fields of coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, and structural heart disease. Dr. Moussa has held numerous leadership positions in the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, and the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention. Dr. Moussa has been on the forefront of cardiovascular medical technology development as an innovator, clinical investigator, and an entrepreneur. He currently serves on the Healthcare Innovation Leadership Council of the American College of Cardiology and is the Co-Chair of the Digital Health and Medical Devices work group. Dr. Moussa pursued formal innovation-entrepreneurship education at the Biomedical Innovation Technology Program at Stanford University (2001-2002), and also completed an MBA- healthcare administration at the University of Colorado Business School (2015-2017).
