The role of hsTn in assessing patient risks following cardiac surgery: new insights for improved care

Dr. Andre Lamy is a cardiac surgeon at the Hamilton Health Sciences. He is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at McMaster University and is a scientist at the Population Health Research Institute in Hamilton.    Dr. Lamy was the PI of the CORONARY trial, a large multi centered randomized trial of off-pump CABG surgery versus on-pump CABG surgery. Dr. Lamy is also leading the COMPASS-CABG, a RCT evaluating the benefits of rivaroxaban for graft patency after CABG surgery but also investigating the poor patency of the skeletonization technique of the internal mammary artery. Dr. Lamy is co-leading the VISION-Cardiac surgery study, a prospective analysis of 15,000 patients to determine the cut-off value and prognostic factor of high sensitivity troponin essays after cardiac surgery. Dr. Lamy also has expertise in health economics.

Dr. Kavsak is a Professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He is also a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry, the American Association for Clinical Chemistry Academy, and the Canadian Cardiovascular Society. He is a biochemist and scientist within the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program, primarily based at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre within Hamilton Health Sciences with special clinical and academic focus and interests in the cardiac and cancer related laboratory tests.  He has over 250 publications, been on the editorial board for a dozen journals, a reviewer for more than 50 different clinical and laboratory journals and a member of research ethics boards for over 20 years.

Dr. Devereaux obtained his MD from McMaster University.  After medical school he completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Calgary and a residency in cardiology at Dalhousie University.  He then completed a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology at McMaster University.  Dr. Devereaux is a cardiologist, perioperative care physician, and clinical epidemiologist.  He is the Director of the Division of Perioperative Care at McMaster University.  He is a Senior Scientist and the Scientific Leader of the Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Surgical Research Group at the Population Health Research Institute.  Dr. Devereaux is a full Professor in the Departments of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact (HEI) and Medicine at McMaster University.  He is the President of the Society of Perioperative Research and Care.   Dr. Devereaux has published >400 peer reviewed papers and >85 book chapters, editorials, and commentaries.  Dr. Devereaux has an h-index of 110 and 287,219 citations.  He has given >1000 lectures and research presentations in 41 countries.  Dr. Devereaux’s research program focuses on medical complications during and after surgery.  Dr. Devereaux is supported by the McMaster University / Hamilton Health Sciences Chair in Perioperative Care.  Dr. Devereaux holds a Tier 1 Canadian Research Chair in Perioperative Medicine.
